Danish Study: "Male circumcision leads to a bad sex life"

Nov 14, 2011

A 2011 study in Denmark concludes that "circumcision was associated with frequent orgasm difficulties in Danish men and with a range of frequent sexual difficulties in women, notably orgasm difficulties, dyspareunia [pain during intercourse] and a sense of incomplete sexual needs fulfillment." A ScienceNordic article covers the study and interviews one of the researchers: "Previous studies into male circumcision have looked at the effects it has on the men. But scientists have never really studied the effects this has on the women's sex lives."

Colorado Becomes 18th State to End Medicaid Coverage of Circumcision

June 24, 2011

Effective July 1st, 2011, Colorado Medicaid will no longer cover newborn circumcision, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars each year. The Colorado State Legislature included the policy change in the state budget, and the new policy was officially announced by the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF) in their June 2011 Provider Bulletin (PDF). MSNBC ran an article on the new development: Circumcision funds cut amid state budget woes.

Parents on Medicaid who are affected by this policy change should be informed about proper care of the foreskin in newborn boys. Until the boy is old enough to wash himself, cleaning under the foreskin is unnecessary. Never retract the foreskin of a young boy, as this could cause bleeding, pain, and infection. The first person to retract the foreskin should be the child himself. Until then, just wash the outside of the penis like you would wash a finger.
